About Switch Hub

Switch Hub is building the payment infrastructure that makes sending money across borders feel local. We run a live consumer app on iOS and Android, a business platform for companies and fintechs, and the rails underneath both. We are a regulated business with real traction: Bank of Canada payment service provider approval, FINTRAC registration, and a Central Bank of Nigeria IMTO license. Real people and real businesses move real money through us every day.

That last point shapes everything about this role. We are not a normal CRUD startup where a bug means a slightly wrong number on a dashboard. When something breaks here, someone's rent payment, tuition, or supplier invoice is on the line. Quality is not a nice to have for us. It is the product.

The Role

This is our first dedicated quality hire, so it is a big one. You will own end to end testing across both of our products: the Switch Hub consumer app (Flutter, iOS and Android) and Switch Hub for Business (React web app and the API behind it). You will be the person who decides whether something is safe to ship, and the team will trust your call.

We are looking for someone who tests like an attacker, not a box ticker. The bugs that hurt a payments company are rarely on the happy path. They live in the edges: two requests hitting the same wallet at the same moment, a webhook that arrives twice or out of order, a provider that times out but still processes the payment, a rounding error that only shows up on certain currency pairs. If reading that made you want to go and try to break something, we should talk.

You will mix hands on exploratory testing with real automation. We want you building regression suites that run on every release so we stop shipping blind, but we also want the sharp human eye that finds the thing no script would think to check.

What You Will Do

  • Own the end to end test strategy across web, mobile, and API, and keep it living as the products grow.
  • Build and maintain automated test suites (Playwright or Cypress for web, Flutter integration testing and a mobile tool such as Maestro or Appium, API testing with Postman or Newman) and wire them into our release process.
  • Run deep exploratory testing of the flows that actually move money: FX conversion, transfers, payouts, wallet funding, and balance changes across CAD, NGN, and USD.
  • Hunt for the edge cases that break payments systems as a first class part of your job: concurrency and race conditions, idempotency, retry and timeout behaviour, and duplicate or out of order webhook events.
  • Verify data and ledger state directly in PostgreSQL, so a green screen in the app is never the only thing we rely on.
  • Test the full user journey end to end: onboarding, KYC and KYB through Sumsub, identity checks, and the approval flows around them.
  • Cover cross border and cross currency scenarios across our corridors (Canada to Nigeria, Canada to the UK) and across iOS and Android, catching the platform specific and currency specific issues.
  • Gate releases that block releases when quality bars are not met, and give a clear, honest go or no go before anything reaches production.
  • Write clean, reproducible bug reports in Jira, with the exact steps, data, and evidence an engineer needs to fix it fast.
  • Work closely with the backend, mobile, and design team day to day, and with compliance where testing supports our regulatory obligations.
  • Champion a testing culture and quietly raise the whole team's quality bar over time. As our first QA hire, you set the standard.

What We Are Looking For

Must have

  • Solid experience in QA or test engineering, with real ownership of quality on a live product.
  • You are strong at both manual and exploratory testing and at building automation. We need both, not one or the other.
  • Hands on with at least one modern web automation framework (Playwright or Cypress) and comfortable testing mobile apps across iOS and Android.
  • Confident testing APIs: reading an OpenAPI or Postman spec, checking status codes, payloads, auth, and error handling, and writing API level tests.
  • Good working SQL, so you can query PostgreSQL and confirm the data behind the UI is actually correct.
  • A genuine feel for how money movement systems fail: idempotency, concurrency, race conditions, eventual consistency, and webhook driven state. If you have not worked in payments, you need to at least understand why these matter.
  • Comfortable slotting tests into a CI pipeline so they run automatically, not just on your machine.
  • A sharp, security aware, edge case first mindset. You naturally try the input nobody expected.
  • Clear written communication and tidy, reproducible bug reports. You make it easy for engineers to fix things.

Nice to have

  • Direct experience testing in fintech, payments, remittance, or banking.
  • Exposure to security testing thinking (OWASP basics, replay attacks, auth abuse) even if you are not a full pen tester.
  • Performance or load testing with something like k6 or Artillery.
  • Familiarity with KYC or KYB providers such as Sumsub, and with regulated onboarding flows.
  • Enough TypeScript to write and maintain automation comfortably in our codebase's language.
  • Understanding of FX, multi currency wallets, or double entry ledgers.

Why Join Us

  • Real ownership. You are the first quality hire. You own testing across the whole company and shape how we do it. That kind of scope is rare.
  • Direct impact. You work directly with the founders and the core engineering team. Your voice on quality carries weight and you see the impact of your work quickly.
  • Real product, real traction. We already move real money for real people and hold serious regulatory approvals. This is a working business, not a slide deck.
  • Work that matters. Every bug you catch protects someone's money. Few QA roles matter this much.
  • Fair pay and equity. Competitive salary for the level and market, plus early team equity so you share in what we build.
  • Flexibility. Remote first with sensible overlap hours, and a team that respects focus time.
  • Growth path. Room to grow into a QA lead or head of quality role as we scale, plus support and budget to keep sharpening your skills.
